1. General information
This subject aims to provide students with the necessary knowledge about mental disorders, based on their phenomenology and different explanatory psychopathological models, with the dual objective of understanding and explaining the different problems for a correct conceptualization, functional analysis and treatment.
These approaches and objectives are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Agenda 2030 (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/), so that the acquisition of the learning results of the subject provides training and competence to contribute to some extent to their achievement. Goal 3: Health and well-being. Goal 4: Quality education Goal 10: Reduction of inequalities.
2. Learning results
- The student will be able to critically analyse and use sources of clinical information.
- The student will be able to formulate working hypotheses in research, collect and critically assess information for problem solving, applying the scientific method.
- The student will have an in-depth knowledge of the psychological nature of human behaviour, as well as the social and biological factors that can affect it.
- The student will have an in-depth knowledge of the psychological nature of human behavioural disorders.
- The student will have an in-depth knowledge of the psychosocial factors associated with health problems and disease.
- The student will have an in-depth knowledge of the biological and psychosocial factors associated with health problems and disease, especially those related to mental health.
- The student will have an in-depth knowledge of the different models of evaluation and intervention in the field of General Health Psychology, as well as the techniques and procedures derived from them for the approach to behavioural disorders.
- The student will be able to design, develop and, if necessary, supervise and evaluate psychological intervention plans and programmes according to the psychological assessment and the individual and social variables involved in each case.
- The student will be able to carry out activities for the promotion of and education for individual and community psychological health.
3. Syllabus
Topic 1. Person-centred psychopathology
Topic 2. Mood-related problems
Topic 3. Anxiety-related problems
Topic 4. Food-related problems
Topic 5. Substance-related and gambling problems
4. Academic activities
- Lectures, in which the teacher will explain the basic notions of a subject (20h)
- Analysis of practical cases, where the student will put into practice the concepts learned (10h)
- Viewing of audiovisual material (10h)
5. Assessment system
Written test (grade from 0 to 10) at the end of the term. The maximum grade in this part represents 60% of the final grade of the subject. The test will include short essay questions.
Continuous classroom work on case studies (grade from 0 to 10). The grade for this part of continued work will be 40% of the final grade. A selection of recommended reading chapters will be given at the beginning of the term. To obtain 40% of the grade for the practical part, it will be necessary to read and submit a critical essay (maximum 2 pages) on a chapter. Those who read all the proposed chapters and submit the corresponding essays will receive an extra point on the final grade.
Students will be able to carry out the continuous assessment activities as long as class attendance is not below 80% of the teaching hours of the subject.
In any case, students will have the right to a global evaluation of the subject in which they will be eligible for the highest grade and where both theoretical and practical content will be evaluated.
